From the horrors of war to the complexities of childhood, Wayne Miller has captured intimate moments of life on film for over 50 years.

To photograph mankind and explain man to man — that was how legendary photographer Wayne Miller described his decades-long drive to document the myriad subjects gracing his work. Miller passed away Wednesday at the age of 94 at his home in California.
Excerpts from the film, Dorothea Lange: A Visual Life. The film was produced and directed by Meg Partridge (1994) and is an engaging and penetrating look at a life devoted to photography, profiling the life and work of an artist who recorded some of the most evocative photographic images of the 20th century. Dorothea Lange’s artistic achievements and untiring investigations into the diversity of American life and culture are presented through interviews with her sons and assistants.

“The good photograph is not the object, the consequences of the photograph are the objects. So that no one would say, how did you do it, where did you find it, but they would say that such things could be.” (+)

The lens that feels like an extension of my eye, so to speak, my beat up 35mm PC Nikkor that’s almost as old as I am. It’s certainly not the sharpest thing around, and in fact I feel that it’s starting to show its age more and more (just as myself). Still, for some reason it seems to render the nicest files, well - to my eyes at least.
